Up Close and Focused,
Three good attributes of this lens: Compact portability, excellent quality and relatively cheap, compared to Sony’s similar lens. One annoying attribute of this lens: manual focus, vs. Sony’s auto-focus lens. I have both lenses. At high magnifications, good photos require no camera movement and precise focusing on subjects. I highly recommend using a tripod and focus on still subjects whenever possible with this lens.

Good product,
I’ve had it for couple months now and completely happy. Being a catadioptric [e.g. mirrors + lenses] design, it’s extremely space efficient and compact for 500mm lens + has good color reproduction. Forget about huge all-glass cans. I can carry it around and take pictures even without tripod [my KM also has a built-in anti-shake]. With the teleconverter you get 1000mm in a tiny package.
Now, you obviously need to understand what it is if you’d like to use it. It has manual focus, no zoom, constant aperture [you can replace filter manually, but otherwise have to rely on exposure time and sometimes iso]. Being a catadioptric design, polarization is mixed up. Minimum working distance is few meters.

Nice Lens,
I got this lens for my husband for christmas and he loves it! It was easy to use and didn’t take alot of time to try to figure out how to use it. He has taken some great shots of the wildlife around our house especially the deer photos are great! Excellent lens for the price!!
